IS TALENT OVERRATED?

How do we become great and unlock the secrets of talent?

These are areas at WBI that we focus on daily in our training. We are not just baseball coaches. We are also researchers that aspire to become great ourselves. It is easy to take the conventional approach to coaching or teaching, but at WBI we long to become the only "hot bed" for baseball and softball development in the area.

We have developed a very specific curriculum and training model. It begins with Reverse Training. We basically take a large complex skill like hitting or pitching and break it down into smaller parts, then teach it backwards. This strategy is extremely effective and gives the athlete an opportunity to succeed and a sense of completion with every repetition, compared to more conventional approaches where the athlete often gets lost through the process.

This Reverse Training blended with T.R.I.P. Baseball Training (technique, repetition, intent, and persistence) will allow for an athlete to explode in his/her development. These four components of "the TRIP" are key ingredients to developing athletes. One must train deliberately, often, and practice the correct technique.

Washington Baseball Instruction (WBI) really does offer a good value to young people who want to develop their baseball skills. While your facility in Woodinville is really great, and your teaching methods effective, those are not what separate WBI from others offering instruction. WBI offers a great value for two primary reasons: First, the staff at WBI is one-of-a-kind. Your coaches/instructors are all capable, effective, and motivated. While they all teach within the same framework, they each bring their own particular slant to teaching baseball. Second, WBI's philosophy of taking a longer term approach to building a swing and developing the pitcher from the inside out really make sense. As a parent and a coach myself, I recognize the difference between the quick fix and laying a foundation for long term development and success. Your organization clearly is out to develp quality baseball players! I wish you continued success, growth, and prosperity - Mark Mayberry
