CAMPS

2021-2022 camps

Hi Wave,

Many of you have inquired about this year's WBI sponsored camps.

Registration is now open.

If you are new to the scene, these fill up fast!

Allow me to share my thoughts on training.

We are in the business of developing ballers. We've had 11 players drafted and over 100 kids advance to the college baseball ranks. How did they do it? They took their game seriously and trained more than most. You get better by training - bottom line. There is no alternative.

That said, sometimes we confuse practice or batting machine work for training. Allow me to explain.

Training is hyper focusing on swing development, pitching or throwing mechanics, arm action, arm health, building a bigger motor, etc (all for example). In training, we break things down into very specific movement patterns or mechanics. It involves deep concentrated reps over time. This is where muscle memory is built. The younger you start the better.

Practice is what happens on a field with your team (generally). It may include cuts and relays, base running, bunt defense, batting practice, grounders, fly balls, etc. This is not training. The individual will not develop swing mechanics here, nor will he add throwing velocity or build a bigger motor, etc. Will the team become more efficient at base running or bunt defense? Yes

Activity is neither practice or training. Activity is hitting balls off a machine while watching the flight of the ball on a colorful screen. It's taking casual batting practice or grounders with poor mechanics (for example). It's playing fall ball games without any real purpose. Like practice, individual skills are not developed here.

What is your goal? Do you want to increase arm strength, bat speed, develop throwing / hitting / fielding mechanics, etc? If so, then deep concentrated training is what's required. And yes, I say required. It’s

the only way to break old habits and build muscle memory.

The perfect training model is what we call T.R.I.P.S. -

T - training

R - repetition

I - intent

P - persistence

S - supervision

All 5 components are required. This is all based on science, not opinion.

Kids need more specialized training reps!

There are 2 ways to achieve more specialized training reps:

  1. Private lessons - expensive and two main components are missing - atmosphere and emulation

  2. Group training - less expensive, offers ATMOSPHERE and the opportunity for EMULATION which is a steroid for development.

Emulation is our greatest teacher.
